What do Aston Villa need in January?

Despite the fact that Aston Villa is up for sale, Randy Lerner has promised that Lambert will have money to spend in the upcoming transfer window. How much money Lambert will have to spend is unknown but generally we would expect it to be a small amount.

There has been many rumours that Scott Sinclair is in talks with the club after a failed move to City. Personally I think that this would be a good move, I can see a lot of comparisons between Sinclair and Ashley Young during his days at Villa. It’s obvious to almost every Villa fan that we need some penetration out-wide to give Benteke some service. When Sinclair was playing regularly for Swansea he was unplayable, he had pace, tricks and an eye for goal. If he can rediscover that form that earned him the big money move to City, he could be a valuable asset and an answer to one of Villa’s many problems.

Adnan Januzaj has also been linked with a loan move to Villa Park, this move would be a strange one. Januzaj has shown in brief spells that he has talent, but are we really going to rely so heavily on a young player to turn our fortunes around? Don't get me wrong I think he'll come good but recent performances have shown immaturity and naivety, he has raw pace but his decision making is so rash that he can end up becoming more of a burden than a benefit.

Many Villa fans believe that no signings are needed to give us width, step forward Jack Grealish. The young winger has looked promising in his brief cameo appearances this season, but Lambert refuses to start him and puts in wasteful playes like N'Zogbia. Younger players like Grealish tend to have no fear and the fans love that, and one major problem for Lambert at the moment is the lack of fans on his side. I think he deserves a chance, sure he's a bit lightweight, but he scares the hell out of full backs and his development is being wasted sat on the bench behind under-performing players like Weimann and N'Zogbia. Sure it seems like a lot of pressure for the young lad, but what harm could it do?

Other potential signings for Villa could be down in the lower divisions, Alex Mowatt at Leeds looks like a very good prospect, Bryan Ruiz is another possible signing from Fulham. Ruiz had a promising World Cup last summer but is currently applying his trade at a struggling Championship club. He could be kind of player to thread the killer balls into the frontline that desperately need some service.

All in all I think it's clear that we need some new players around Bodymoor Heath. Money is definitely an issue as a chairman who is looking to sell is very unlikely to invest in the squad. We can only hope that by the end of January, some more creative players have been brought in to supply some goals that we so desperately need.
