Last night (31st July), Southend United faced Queens Park Rangers in a friendly. The team QPR brought down wasn’t the one that a lot of blues fans were hoping for, as it had no real 'big' players in the team, with the biggest being Jack Collison. Saying that it was still an even game with both teams playing outstanding football at times.

Personally my MOTM (if there was one) would have been Barry Corr, as the work rate and effort he produced during the 87 minutes he played last night was fantastic. Even though Barry played as a Striker last night for the Shrimpers, you saw him on the wings and Central Midfield at times helping to tackle and win the ball.

On the whole, the team played to a high standard throughout and that is encouraging as the new season is just over a week away, where we start away to Accrington Stanley.

The best chance of the game was undoubtedly Connor Clifford’s fantastic strike from outside the box which skimmed the crossbar and went just over. Also, as a trialist, I thought centre back Mats Ibenfeldt had a fantastic game, playing the whole 90 minutes and I personally think Phil Brown should offer the 6ft 5inch Dane a 1 year contract due to his performance this pre-season. It's also a position we are weak in and need some improvements.
