Brazil’s Nuts - The Faith in Youth Worked

So unbelievably with two games to go Forest can still make the playoffs. It appears nobody wants to take hold of that coveted sixth spot. It was believed by many including myself that after the debacles against Charlton and Millwall we had no chance. It had been expressed on many a fan forum when the latest starting lineups for Forest against Birmingham and Leeds were announced that that they had not seen worse starting lineups for a long time and that Gary Brazil like the vast majority of fans believed we had no chance to make the playoffs so therefore believed we may as well give the kids a run out. However as our last two games have showed trust in youth has prevailed. Well done Brazil for showing faith in playing them. Brazil has shown some nuts.

This faith in youth really does show the fine lines in management. If we had lost both games I am sure everybody would say that we would have had a chance to win and be in the playoff hunt if we had not put out such perceived weaker teams. However instead we are sitting here with a chance with many putting that down to showing faith in youth. It may well prove to be a shrewd decision on which we may remember Brazil’s short legacy. Osborn has played well since he has been introduced to the first team picture and Mclaughlin had a promising debut. Perhaps they were brought in this pressure cooker of an environment because they have nothing to lose and no fear. We do not know what we are going to get from these players so not too much is expected from them. Pearce must be watching these lads as a man who has managed at under twenty one level with great interest. He of course will already know the talents of Lascelles who has done himself no harm in his last two commanding performances at centre back.

Of course if our two key players Lansbury and Reid were both available quite rightly the youth in midfield would have had to wait for their debuts. However high praise must be given to them in the energy they have shown. If Forest can adopt this energy into two more wins and Reading and Ipswich do not win their games which is likely based on the opposition, we will play Derby and as the old football cliche goes ‘anything can happen in a derby’. We can but dream, because if recent history goes we promise so much and then deliver so little. However maybe this time? Come on Forest do not let us down again. We suffer too much.
