West Ham fans would have been delighted to hear that, yesterday, Aaron Cresswell signed a new 5-year contract with the club. This puts to rest some fans concerns that last year’s Player of the Season was being linked with a move to either Chelsea or Manchester City.

New Deal
Followers of West Ham’s official Twitter page were given the heads up when a tweet advising a “major announcement regarding on of our first team players”, 5 hours later the official announcement was made.

Cresswell could well be regarded as West Ham’s 3rd major signing of the summer and arguably one of their most important. Cresswell himself is delighted to have signed a new deal at Upton Park, he told the official website;

“It's exciting times for me to pen a new deal at West Ham, thankfully last year was a good season for me personally to play every minute of every game, so it's nice to finally commit my future to West Ham.

“I was at Ipswich 12 months ago and when West Ham came in for me there was only one place for me.

I jumped straight in the car, down the A12 and signed for West Ham. So for me to play for a club like West Ham, week in week out, is massive and these are exciting times.

“It's going to be a massive year for us, the last year at Upton Park. But it's exciting times going into one of the best stadiums in Europe, even in the world. It's going to be a good summer, hopefully a few more faces will come in and we’ll have a good year.”

Cresswell will also be delighted to learn that Julian Dicks has taken the role of Assistant First Team Coach. West Ham’s legendary former left-back, who spent last season as manager of West Ham Ladies, made over 260 league appearances for the Hammers in two spells scoring 50 goals and Cresswell can be sure to learn a thing or two from ‘The Terminator'

As happy as the West Ham fans are with this piece of news, they will feel that this is only part one completed in the full-back recruitment drive as a deal for Carl Jenkinson is still to be finalised.

Noises from closely placed sources on social media seem to be hinting at a deal only being a matter of time. But with a punishing fixture schedule ahead, surely West Ham want to get this completed sooner rather than later.
