Germany 3-0 Denmark - e-Football Review

Article by Luke Massey (@Lukemassey) in The Czech Republic

The Dane’s went into the game top of the group with victory under their belts against hosts Czech Republic, whereas Germany drew in their first game against Serbia 1-1 and share second spot with the Serb’s. Germany needed a win a lot more then Denmark if they want to progress in the tournament.

Sisto started the game instead of Fisher for Denmark (which is fitting if you’ve read my last article on e-Football). Denmark controlled the first part of the half with a few half decent chances in the box but the shot never seemed to get away and iwhen it did it rebounds off a defender for an easy save for the keeper. The one thing that strikes me from almost the first minute is Can’s size, it’s not necessarily that he’s bigger then everyone else, though he is certainly bigger then most, but the maturity in his game to use his size while still keeping within the referee’s good graces. Denmark had the best of the chances after 14 minutes but the angle was to tight for Denmark’s number 9 and the shot went wide. 32 minutes in and a wonder-ball from Can cut’s Denmark’s defence in two from 30 years out and Germany's number 9 Volland slots home after a one on one with the Danish keeper. 1-0 Germany. If Denmark had the best of the first 20 minutes, then Germany have definitely had the best of the last 25 minutes. Germany deservedly lead at half time and once again Can looks at home and extremely effective in midfield. 1 goal and 1 assist in 2 games so far at the tournament ranks him right up their with the best performers so far.

The second half starts as the first ended with Germany dominating the game. 3 minutes in and that man Volland converts a free kick in magnificent style from 30-yards out after Sisto commits a foul on Emre Can. 5 minutes later and Ginter makes it 3-0, brilliant control again from Younes as he cuts into the box and crosses the ball into the danger zone for Ginter to score a powerful header. Busk the Danish keeper had no chance. Poulsen off and U. Bech on for Denmark, Poulsen has arguably wasted Denmark’s best chance when at 0-0 and failed to recover. Germany continue to dominate with a host of chances which are all well saved by Busk. Fischer replaces Sisto for Denmark’s second substitution. Sisto had struggled to say the least in this game after making such an impact in the first. Denmark make their final change, Jens Jønsson off for C. Nørgaard while Germany’s Can makes way for Geis to a standing ovation. Germany make their final two substitutions within as many minutes - Kevin Volland off for Felix Klaus and then minutes later Leonardo Bittencourt off for Arsenal’s Serge Gnabry. Germany keep possession with ease before the referee blows the final whistle. Tonight Germany lived up to their tag of favourites for the tournament with Can, Younes and Volland all extremely impressive.

After the final whistle Can ran straight to the German support, handing his top to one of the young supporters before leading his team in a set of cheers with the fans. Germany look unstoppable on today's evidence and Can’s last two performances must make most Liverpool fan’s wonder why they’ve only see him in fleeting performances in midfield. A lot for Liverpool’s manager Brendan Rodgers to consider next season.
