Arsenal in Defensive Dire Straits

With the recent injury to Mathieu Debuchy, which will leave him on the sideline for 3 months, Arsenal have been left very thin at the back. This was shown in the Dortmund game last week as Arsenal handed youngster Hector Bellerin his debut. With this lack of depth in the defense many Arsenal fans are calling for Wenger to bring in some cover but now the window is closed he will have to buy from the free agents. Here are some possibilities:

Joseph Yobo (Free Agent)- The former Everton and Norwich centre-back is now 34 years old and only retired from international football with Nigeria this year. He has always been renowned for his strength and pure determination whilst on the football pitch.

Diego Lugano (Free Agent)- The ex-Uruguay captain spent last season at West Bromwich
Albion, but was released at the end of the year as he never really performed for them. Whatever Lugano lacks in pace he makes up for in experience, he has been through successful spells with some of South America’s best teams, as well as briefs spells at both PSG and Malaga.

Lassana Diarra (Free Agent)- The Frenchman has played at Arsenal before but only made 7 appearances. He is technically still under contract at Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow but he has not been registered in their team, meaning he may be available for free. He has had a successful national career with France earning 28 caps for the first team as well as 18 for the U21’s. He is predominantly a defensive midfielder but he has also played right back.
