Why Van Gaal's Holland Set-up Would Suit United Perfectly?

Throughout the World Cup, future Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has used the modern "3 at the back" system to good effect. It has proved to be successful for them and managed to get them all the way to the semi-finals before eventually beating hosts, Brazil in the 3rd place play-off.

Many people I'm sure are keen to find out what system Van Gaal will use at United and who he will use in it. It would be my bet that playing 3 at the back with two wing-backs bombing forward could be the way that current Dutch boss Van Gaal might choose after his recent arrival prior to the World Cup.

With Antonio Valencia and Patrice Evra recently signing new contracts at the club, they could be ideal candidates for playing the two wing-back roles with new signing Luke Shaw and Brazilian Rafael Da Silva also capable of playing the roles.

It has also been well documented that the Red Devils are in the hunt for a new centre back or two with players like Mats Hummels, French-man Mangala and Arsenal man Thomas Vermalaen all being linked with the club. Meaning that if two of these top players joined the club, we would be left with 5 centre halves in total with Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling already at the club. This would give us many options to pick from in that particular area of the pitch.

In the middle of the park, new play-maker Ander Herrara would be perfect to fill the role of United legend Paul Scholes who has been widely missed since his second retirement. It has also been reported that Van Gaal is lining up a record bid for Chile international Arturo Vidal with his Juventus team-mate Paul Pogba also being linked with a return to the club after Sir Alex Ferguson regrettably made one of his biggest mistakes as Manchester United manager in letting the youngster leave for free just a fee years ago. Both players I believe would be ideal to play alongside Herrara as both would be able to play the box-to-box role whilst Herrara pulls the strings in midfield.

One of the biggest advantages of the system I believe is the fact that arguably United's three biggest players Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Robin Van-Persie would all fit in and would be able to play in their preferred positions with Mata playing in the hole, behind the strikers. It would also see Wayne Rooney finally get his wish of playing up alongside Van-Persie and would keep all three happy with their roles at the club.

After many questions as to how Va Gaal will instruct his new players how to play, could this possibly be the answer.
