Charlton have completed the signing of Israeli international Tal Ben Haim from Standard Liege on a one-year contract.

Ben Haim becomes the second defender to sign for the club in three days and looks set to challenge for the first team with Michael Morrison, Andre Bikey, Harry Lennon and Joe Gomez. After falling out of favour in Belgium, Ben Haim's signing had been widely anticipated by many in London given the ease of transferring the player across Duchâtelet's network.

Ben Haim brings a wealth of experience to the squad after having previous spells at Bolton, Chelsea, West Ham, Portsmouth, QPR, Sunderland and Manchester City in the Premier League. At 32 years of age, the club have taken precaution by only offering the Israeli a one-year contract. One criticism some have had regarding Charlton's recent transfer policy has been that the club have not been signing players with a knowledge of domestic English football. Ben Haim's signature looks set to address that concern and supporters will been keen to see their new man in action, who may feature at Welling United tomorrow.
