Silly Season

It’s the summer transfer window – “Silly Season”.

Worryingly, it’s been shortened this year, by the World Cup, so it’s likely to be even sillier.

Ok, so it hasn’t literally been shortened, but with the top teams distracted by Brasil 2014, the yellow reel on Sky Sports News hasn’t really got going. Yet.

A lot of activity will now be compressed into the final six weeks of the summer.

As usual, some of our own fans are beginning to panic at the lack of activity in SE25.

We “boast” one signing – young goalkeeper Chris Kettings. Aswell as the re-signing of Jules of course.

Depending on your persuasion, you may have also looked upon the departure of KG as a signing. One of world class proportions. I jest.

I write this, firmly believing that there is no need to panic.

I’ve written about CPFC2010′s prudency before. Their Wenger-like approach to contracts and transfers. Yes it’s frustrating, but would you really want to be like big spending Hull City?

I can hear you – “but Wenger’s approach hasn’t worked!” It has in a way, he has re-built Arsenal. Laid foundations.

We need a few players, that’s clear, but there will be no scatter-gun approach to finding them.

I believe that we’ll go big, for a few.

Quality not quantity – Caulkers and Shelveys, not Dobbies and Kebes.

Pulis & the co-chairmen have a business plan regarding the playing squad. A type of plan that either wasn’t in place, or was discarded in a fit of desperation last summer.

There is no better education than your own mistakes. I am confident that CPFC2010 know what their doing. And very importantly, that Pulis is far more capable than Holloway.

If we don’t get the players on the manager’s shortlist, then it wont be for a lack of trying to improve the squad. It is more likely to be because less sensible clubs tempted the players with big wages (QPR).

I’m OK with that. This club has seen it’s share of QPR-type recklessness.

I’m not panicking. My club is in good hands.
