Ipswich Town yesterday revealed the signing of Jonathan Parr on a 2-year deal, which will see the left back remain with the Blues until the summer of 2016.

Having been capped nine times by the Norway international side, Parr signed for Crystal Palace in 2011 from Aalesunds FK in the Tippeligaen. From then he made 92 appearances for the south London side, including 39 in their promotion winning season, and 17 last year in the Premier League. Previous to that he won the 2012 player of the year award.

The rumours of the signing began when his father and adviser Roger told Norwegian newspaper Aftenpostenthat there was a “big chance” that the 25-year-old will join the Blues following his release by the Eagles, and went on to reveal "We travel there to have a meeting with the club on Monday. At Ipswich he will be first choice. Jonathan had a meeting with the manager and had a good conversation with him, and Jonathan knows the captain. It is important to have some relationships in place."

Having signed yesterday afternoon, Parr told Ipswich player “It’s been a long summer, trying to sort out where I’m going to play my football. I spoke to a number of clubs but I had a good feeling about Ipswich. I watched Ipswich play last season and they looked a good team.

Speaking of Mick McCarthy’s influence on the signing, he revealed “The manager told me what we wants from his team and how he’s looking to be pushing for a place in the top six. That’s where I want to be. Everyone wants to play at the highest level and I’ve joined Ipswich to help the club get in the Premier League.”

He also admitted he spoke to former loanee Jonny Williams before making the move to Suffolk , and did hint at trying to persuade him to return again - “I spoke to Jonny Williams, who was here on loan last season, of course, and he couldn’t speak highly enough of the club. Maybe I can get him to join me. I’ll give it a go. It could be fun!”

Having travelled to Ireland today, Parr could make his first appearance in Town colours against Shelbourne on Saturday in the Blues first pre-season game, with reaction to the match available on here.
