e-Chelsea World Cup Update

Ten Chelsea players have progressed to the last 16 stage of the World Cup Finals. Oscar, Ramires and Willian for Brazil, Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku for Belgium, Jon Mikel Obi, Kenneth Omeruo and Victor Moses for Nigeria and Andre Schurrle for Germany.


Gary Cahill, Frank Lampard, Christian Atsu, Cesar Azpilicueta, Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas and Samuel Eto’o will play no further part in the tournament.

Uruguay 2-1 England– Gary Cahill played the full 90 minutes for England who fell behind to a Luis Suarez header after 39 minutes. Wayne Rooney scored his first goal in a World Cup Final s tournament to draw England level after 75 minutes, but that man Suarez won it for Uruguay with 5 minutes remaining to eliminate The Three Lions from the competition at the group stage for the first time since 1954. Frank Lampard was an unused substitute.

Germany 2-2 Ghana – Andre Schurrle was an unused substitute, as Germany drew with Ghana in Fortaleza. Christian Atsu put in an impressive performance for The Black Stars, but was replaced after 71 minutes.

Nigeria 1-0 Bosnia – Jon Mikel Obi and Kenneth Omeruo both played the full 90 minutes in a narrow 1-0 win for the Super Eagles against Bosnia. Mikel picked up a yellow card during the match. Victor Moses was an unused substitute.

Belgium 1-0 Russia – Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku all started for Belgium against Russia. Divock Origi grabbed a late winner for Belgium, having replaced the disappointing Lukaku after 57 minutes.

Australia 0-3 Spain – Fernando Torres was on target for Spain as the defending Champions bowed out of the tournament with a comfortable victory against Australia. Torres scored Spain’s second goal after 69 minutes. Cesc Fabregas had replaced Santi Cazorla a minute earlier, and set up former Blue, Juan Mata for Spain’s third. Cesar Azpilicueta was an unused substitute.

Costa Rica 0-0 England – Gary Cahill again played the entire game, as England played out a drab draw against Costa Rica. Frank Lampard captained the team, and also completed the full 90 minutes.

Nigeria 2-3 Argentina - Jon Mikel Obi and Kenneth Omeruo again played the full match for Nigeria, against a Lionel Messi inspired Argentina. Omeruo picked up a yellow card, as despite the defeat, Nigeria progressed to a last 16 meeting with France. Victor Moses was an unused substitute.

Portugal 2-1 Ghana – Christian Atsu played the whole game, but could not help his country to get the result they needed, as USA, despite a defeat to Germany, progressed into the last 16.

USA 0-1 Germany – Andre Schurrle came on for the last 2 minutes, as Germany secured a last 16 meeting with Algeria, courtesy of Thomas Muller’s fourth goal of the tournament.

South Korea 0-1 Belgium – Thibaut Courtois kept another clean sheet as Belgium recorded another narrow victory, this time against South Korea. Eden Hazard appeared for the last 2 minutes, and Romelu Lukaku was an unused substitute, as Belgium progressed to a last 16 meeting with the USA.
