On The Pitch

22 February – Aston Villa Youth 0-3 Chelsea Youth. The Youngsters gained an excellent victory against Villa with goals from Jake Clarke-Salter, Tammy Abraham and a Kasey Palmer penalty.

22 February – Chelsea 1-0 Everton. The Blues ground out a hard-fought and vitally important victory over a spirited Everton side in Saturday’s early kick-off. With wins for Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool over the weekend, the table remains unchanged, though Tottenham and Everton lost ground in the race for Champions League places. Frank Lampard has been credited with the goal, after his stoppage-time free kick was deflected in off Everton ‘keeper Tim Howard.

25 February – Chelsea Youth 4-1 AC Milan Youth. The U19’s produced an excellent performance to progress to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League where they will face Schalke 04 who they beat twice at an earlier stage of the competition. Lewis Baker scored twice, the second of which was a stunning 35-yard effort, and there were also goals for Jeremie Boga and Alex Kiwomya. Milan scored a late consolation through Andrea Petagna.

26 February – Galatasaray 1-1 Chelsea. Chelsea gained a decent away draw in Istanbul on Wednesday night. Fernando Torres scored a vital away goal after just 9 minutes in the Turk Telekom Arena, turning in Cesar Azpilicueta’s intelligent cut-back after a swift counter-attack, and The Blues could have been further ahead by half-time against the out of sorts hosts. Galatasaray improved after the interval and deserved their equaliser midway through the second-half when Aurelien Chedjou prodded home from close range from a corner. The second-leg is at Stamford Bridge on 18 March.
