Newcastle and Luuk De Wrong

There are many rumours circulating that speculate Newcastle United and Borussia Mönchengladbach have reached an agreement for a loan of Luuk De Jong and the player could be signed in time to appear on Tuesday night. The 23 year old striker has been at the Bundesliga club since July 2012 but has only made 23 appearances and scored 8 times, with the majority of his caps being as a substitute. His time with FC Twente was much more successful having made 76 appearances and scoring 39 goals earning him his move to the German league.

Papiss Cisse is currently out of favour with Alan Pardew due to his lack of goals and Loic Remy being brought in on loan. When Cisse first arrived in Newcastle he exploded onto the scene with an unstoppable run of goal scoring form, with nearly every strike leaving fans wondering how he got the ball in from where he was. Remember the two at Stamford Bridge? Or at the Liberty Stadium, managing to scoop it over the keeper whilst falling over, he was immense.

Cisse scored 13 goals in his first 14 games for Newcastle during his first season. The second season was a struggle for the whole team and saw Papiss only score 13 in 47 appearances, only glimpses of the player we had seen the year before. This season he has found himself on the bench after only scoring 3 in 18, of only 1 has been in the premier league which came from a penalty against a 9 man Stoke.

It is easy to compare De Jong and Cisse with both players having great seasons in the past but struggling for form in the present. I believe that with Luuk being 23 he has a lot of time and potential to develop into a good striker and that Newcastle are a club that can help him to rediscover his goal scoring touch.

Are we right to be loaning an out of form striker and a time when we need goals? Do you believe De Jong is the right player for us or would you rather Cisse was given another chance?
