Left a Bhoy - will he return a Man?

Article by Celtic Correspondent Rory Higgins

Aiden Mcgeady burst on to the scene at Celtic as young 18 year old lad and fulfilling his dream of wearing the famous Green and White Hoops.

If the latest football gossip is to be believed he could one day be wearing the hoops again.

McGeady left Celtic in 2010 for what was then a Scottish transfer record of £9.5 million pound to ply his trade in the Russian league with Spartak Moscow. His contract runs out at the end of this current season and although Spartak are willing to discuss contract extensions it seems Mcgeady would like to move back closer to home.

If he is available for £4 million or less with only 6 months to run on his contract I believe it would be a major coup for Celtic to sign him back either for a fee in January or on a pre-contract basis for next season.

One thing Celtic have lacked for a few seasons now is an out and out left sided winger. It seemed Derk Boerrigter was going to be the answer to the problem and we have seen flashes of what he may offer. But it seems his reputation of sicknote in his native Holland is not a myth by any means.

McGeady knows what the club is about and having played with Lennon for a couple of seasons he may like to go back and play under him, I think the pace on both wings to have Forrest on one side and McGeady on the other could scare most opposition full backs.

Do you agree or would you rather we target someone else? if so let me know your comments below.

  1. ANY team would have to be insane to pay 4M for McGeady when he only has 6 months left on his existing Russian contract. Celtic most definitely won't, as they're not desperate to sign him and he'd be available for free in 6 months anyway.

  2. I think £1m (max) is a fair pricetag to secure McGeady in January....

  3. It would be a fantastic signing but his wage demands would put him out of our reach IMO

  4. if we get him on a free yes and he would have to take a wage cut, but i am not sure if Aiden would want to come back to Celtic
