Match Report – Reading 1-1 Millwall

Trotter penalty saves 10-man Millwall

Millwall left it late for the second week on the trot as they salvaged a draw at an in-form Reading. Liam Trotter's 93rd minute penalty cancelled out Sean Morrison's opener to earn a much-deserved point for the Lions at the Madejski Stadium, a week after Jermaine Easter rescued a point in stoppage time against QPR.

The game started in a very open fashion and Millwall striker Martyn Waghorn had a shot blocked with 5 minutes gone which earned the away side a corner.

Just a minute later, however, the Lions fell behind. Jordan Obita's in-swinging free kick found the head of Morrison and he made no mistake to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Millwall winger Martyn Woolford had a shot blocked before Waghorn then had another effort flash wide as the visitors pushed for a swift equaliser. Reading nearly doubled their lead however just before the break as David Forde did superbly well to keep out Jason Pearce from point blank range.

Both sides had chances after half time as Reading hit-man Adam Le Fondre somehow poked wide from 6 yards before Adam Federici saved an attempt from Scott McDonald from an acute angle.

The Lions thought they had equalised in the 55th minute as Danny Shittu finished off a cross sent over by Waghorn. The linesman raised his flag however stating skipper Paul Robinson had touched it beforehand. Steve Lomas was incensed.

Hal Robson-Kanu had a chance to finish the game off but once again Forde was on top form to keep his side in the game.

All hope seemed to have vanished however when Nadjim Abdou received his marching orders in the 85th minute for a second yellow.

However, Millwall kept pushing and Steve Morison flashed a header wide in the 90th minute and it was all out attack from Millwall once the 4th official showed there'd be 5 minutes of stoppage time.

The Londoners finally got the elusive chance they'd been waiting for in the 93rd minute when Federici fouled McDonald and the linesman signalled a penalty. Trotter stepped up with ice in his veins as he hammered home from 12 yards to earn his side a point.

Millwall boss Steve Lomas praised his side and said after the game “That was the best we've played this season.”

Nigel Adkins admitted "If you're from Millwall you'll think you deserved to get a draw, and you can't deny that for their efforts."

Championship Round-Up

Barnsley 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Matty Fryatt earned Wednesday a point in this bottom-of-the-table encounter after Pederson's 16th minute opener. That's now 12 league games without a win now for under-pressure Dave Jones.

Huddersfield 3-2 Leeds

Huddersfield came from behind to win this thrilling Yorkshire derby. Matt Smith scored for the second consecutive game before Danny Ward and an own-goal from Tom Lees put the hosts 2-1 in front. Leeds debutante Dexter Blackstock seemed to have salvaged a point for the away side before Jon Stead scored his 1st of the season to give his side a well-earned 3 points.

Blackpool 2-2 Blackburn

Blackburn came from behind twice to earn a point against a frustrated Blackpool side. A penalty each for Tom Ince and Jordan Rhodes saw the game poised at 1-1 before Dan Gosling re-instated the hosts' 1-goal lead. An own-goal from Steve Davies in the 90th minute gifted Gary Bowyer's men a point as Blackpool drew for the 5th time in just 6 games.

Bolton 1-1 Ipswich

Lowly Bolton once again threw away a lead as they limped to a 1-1 draw with an inconsistent Ipswich. Medo Kamara's superb free-kick gave the home side an advantage just after the break. Just 12 minutes later, however, David McGoldrick equalised as Bolton missed out on a great opportunity to climb the table.

Burnley 2-0 QPR

A Danny Ings double gave Burnley their 7th consecutive league win in this top-of-the-table encounter at Turf Moor. Burnley now have a 3 point lead at the top of the table as QPR slipped down into 3rd.

Derby 1-1 Birmingham

Lee Clark's men bounced back from their 4-0 drubbing at Leeds last week to salvage a point against Steve McLaren's Derby side. Substitute Lee Novak scored with his first touch to cancel out James Ward's 39th minute opener.

Leicester 2-1 Bournemouth

Leicester took advantage of QPR's slip-up to leapfrog them into 2nd place. David Nugent's 8th goal of the season was soon cancelled out by Mark Pugh who maintained the Cherries' record of scoring in every league game this season. Jamie Vardy snatched the winner as Leicester cruised to a 2-1 win after Elliot Ward was sent off for the visitors.

Middlesbrough 4-0 Doncaster

Manager-less Middlesbrough showed no signs of remorse as they thrashed Doncaster on Friday night. Albert Adomah gave the hosts a 2-0 lead before Kei Kamara and Daniel Ayala made it 4-0. This is the second week in a row where Doncaster have conceded 4 on their travels but Middlesbrough climb to 14th.

Yeovil 3-1 Nottingham Forest

The form book was thrown out the window as Yeovil caused a little bit of a shock by comfortably beating Billy Davies' high-flyers. An Ed Upson double gave the hosts the lead in windy conditions before loanee Nathaniel Chalobah gave his side hope. Byron Webster scored just a minute later and Yeovil saw out what is just their 2nd win of the season & their first on home soil.
