There can be little debate that despite as much heartache as ever over recent seasons, Spurs now possess one of their strongest teams in around two decades. Despite the loss of several key squad members, Spurs produced their highest Premier League points tally of all-time last season. But how many of the current players would make an all-time Premier League Tottenham eleven?

Detailed below is my opinion on the strongest Spurs eleven available. I look forward to seeing how your teams compare.

Selection Criteria: Choose players based only on ability displayed whilst playing for Tottenham. Must play a 4-4-2 formation.

GK – Hugo Lloris

LB – Benoit Assou-Ekotto

CB- Younes Kaboul

CB – Ledley King

RB – Stephen Carr

LW – Gareth Bale

CM – Luka Modric

CM – Sandro

RW – Aaron Lennon

ST – Jurgen Klinsmann

ST – Dimitar Berbatov

Tough decision on whom to partner Klinsmann, but for me Berbatov just edges past Sheringham. Keane, Van Der Vaart and Defoe certainly pulled at the heartstrings but purely on ability I’ve gone for the German and Bulgarian.

Lennon over Ginola was also a close call. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Frenchman and he was a boyhood idol. However, he played for a Spurs team much further down the league and I am just not quite 100% sure he would do it consistently in a team challenging at the top, as the above team most certainly would. Worth mentioning Anderton as a competitor for that spot too of course, but my belief is Lennon has done enough to merit his place over the past few seasons.

At the back there is one noticeable exception, but I make no excuses for his exclusion. Younes Kaboul demonstrated prior to his lengthy lay off that he is a world class centre half and besides Ledley King in his prime this is a fearsome defensive unit.

Is this the strongest eleven available to Spurs from the Premier League era? Post your team below in the comments section.
