e-Football World XI

Article by e-Football Dep. Editor Antony Moule (UK)

Welcome to e-Football!

As you can see, we have yet to produce an article for fans to debate so, to get the ball rolling, I figure a discussion on who would be in a world XI is a great place to kick start this #byfansforfans site.

So let me take you through my world XI, which is a 4231 formation.

GK - Manuel Neuer

This is really a tough choice. I personally believe that Neure, Lloris and Hart are your three best goalkeepers in the world, but the German just heads this for me. He is everything you want in a goalkeeper, big, power, athletic, great reaction and he is a dominant presence.

RB - Philipp Lahm

Is there any other contender? This guy is that good, if there was two of him, I would have the other one at LB as well. He is the complete fullback, be attacks with pace and venom, yet is as defensively strong as a castle. Has pace and power and is my shout for captain as well. Truly quality player.

CB - Mats Hummels

Centre backs was always going to cause up selection issues. There is too many to mention who could be placed in a world XI, but Hummels really steps up a notch for me. He is the ultimate defend, athletic, powerful, tackles any and everything, fantastic in the air and reads the game superbly. Along with Subotić, was in unlucky not to have a Champions League winners medal last season.

CB - Gerard Piqué

It's a tough choice for the partner of Hummels, so many potential options; Dante, Boetang, Kompany, Thiago Silva, but I think that because Piqué offers such an all-round game, he has be selected. Similar to Hummels, great in the air, great at reading the game, and offers so much in attack as well.

LB - David Alaba

This is probably another surprise selection, but the Bayern Munich player, only 20, has really excelled this season just gone. He really does offer so much from left back. He is such a powerful lad, he defies his age against more developed personnel. He has pace to-boot and also has great attacking ability; oozing confidence both going forward and defending, and will likely dominate the LB spot for years to come.

CM - Andrea Pirlo

This selection is probably a slight surprise to most of you, especially given his age, but to me, he is simply a footballing god. His range of passing is second to none, he comfortable, relaxed approach to the creative side of football is a pleasure to watch, and he does defy his age with recent performances.

CM - Andrés Iniesta

What can you say about this Spanish legend that has not already been said. He can do it all, dribble round an entire team, pass with the precision of a surgeon, score from almost anywhere on a pitch. Any team without him must surely be questioned.

AMR - Gareth Bale

The Welsh wizard is a talent to behold. Very similar to another player in this team, his speed and powerful strides give defenders nightmares, but this season just gone, he developed his game further. His shots now seem unstoppable, his free kicks appear alive, and 31 goals for club and country definitely put him in this team.

AMC - Lionel Messi

Well, the best player in the world has to in any team, and placing him in a AMC allows him to use all his world class abilities. Being possibly the best dribbler in football gives allows him to keep the ball in the tightest positions. He can shoot from distance, and get in behind defences, but it his passing range that really gives him the complete attacking threat. A technical masterpiece.

AML - Cristiano Ronaldo

CR7 is the ultimate athlete. He is a perfectly designed football player; every skill and ability known in the football universe, this guy can do. He is also a hugely intelligent player, reading the game, making runs, loosing markers, he really turns defenders inside out.

ST - Robert Lewandowski

For, the best strikers, and I mean true, upfront strikers, are Van Persie, Falcao and my selected Lewandowski. My reasons for picking the Polish chat over the other two is his ability to utilise the players around him. They all have similar attributes; tall, great shots, eye for goal etc... but Robert is the perfect no.9 in my opinion. He knows how to use his team to create the best chances, and selects his more selfish moments precisely.

So there it is, my world XI, I'm sure you agree with some, and disagree with others, so let us know yours here on e-Football.
